The Girl Next Door

A 16-year-old Marlborough girl, who does not wear makeup, will be strutting alongside some top New Zealand models next month.
Marlborough Girls' College Year 12 student Paige Kilgour has been selected as the face of Indulge Marlborough, an event on September 30, showcasing 2011 sauvignon blanc wines alongside food from the region and New Zealand fashion.
Paige said she was more at home on a basketball or netball court than a catwalk, but was looking forward to working with professional models, including Sophie Doull who is just back from New York, and New Zealand's Next Top Model 2010 runner-up Michaela Steenkamp.
Pressure from family and friends convinced her to enter the contest, along with the allure of a prize package that included top label fashion, professional makeup, and a photo portfolio to be sent to a modelling agency in Christchurch.
Indulge Marlborough organiser Hamish Thomas said Paige had a cheeky smile, a nice personality, and was well grounded.
Paige's girl-next-door face and long, slightly curly hair were in tune with this season's natural look.
The top 10 contenders for the face of Indulge were chosen by public vote after putting their photos on the internet for voting.
The final cut was made by Mr Thomas and designers to be featured at Indulge.
The fashion show would feature collections by Kate Sylvester, Stolen Girlfriends Club, and Katherine Wilson, fresh from New Zealand Fashion Week, which would not be in shops until next winter.
Indulge is part of the Real New Zealand festival, coinciding with the Rugby World Cup, Mr Thomas said.
"It will be a chance to get dressed up and celebrate the Marlborough region."
